How does the interview process work?
All applicants must be interviewed in person. We do not conduct interviews over the phone or over the Internet. Interviews are informal and normally last 30-45 minutes. Please bring the following items with you at the time of your interview:
-A recent college transcript (official or unofficial copy)
-A resume (optional)

Do I need a recommendation?
Yes. All counseling staff, medical staff, and Program Assistant (PA) applicants must have an online Recommendation Form submitted on their behalf by an individual unaffiliated with Camp Sweeney. This form may be completed by professors, employers, volunteer supervisors, etc. A letter of recommendation may be submitted in the place of the Recommendation Form. Office staff and kitchen staff do not need a Recommendation Form.
How does the hiring process work?
If selected for a position on our staff, you will receive a contract via email. You will be asked to complete and return the contract via email or fax within 7-10 days. Additional employment paperwork will be requested at that time. If you choose to decline the position, please notify us as soon as possible.
How many people do you hire?
Each summer, Camp Sweeney employs approximately 70 counselors, 20 medical staff, 16 Program Assistants, 10 office staff, and 12 kitchen staff.
In 2018, we interviewed over 150 applicants for 50 available positions on our counseling staff.

SUMMER FACTS
What is the first day of employment?
Your first day of employment will depend on your position. General Staff Development for all counselor and medical staff members begins on May 23rd, 2019.

What is the last day of employment?

Do I have to work the entire summer?
All employees are required to work the entire duration of the summer.

Do I get time off?
The Associate Program Directors will assign each staff member time off prior to the beginning of the summer. Time off will be based on the position you are hired for. Generally, counselors and medical staff receive 1 day and 2 nights off per session and will be given time off from 2 PM Friday to 11 AM Saturday at the completion of session 1 & 2. Counselors and medical staff will reside at Camp Sweeney from staff development through the last day of work.
Program Assistants (or PAs) work 7 day shifts. PAs will reside at Camp Sweeney during their work shift.
Office & Kitchen Staff will be assigned specific shifts and will not reside at Camp Sweeney. Days off will be assigned during staff development.

Do I get paid?
Yes. Counseling staff members are paid between $3,550 and $3,850. All other salaries depend upon position.
Is there a dress code?
Yes. Male counselors are not allowed to have or grow facial hair or wear earrings while at camp. All other body piercings (such as tongue, nose, and naval) are not permitted by either male or female counselors. Tattoos must be covered at all times and unnatural hair color is not permitted.
There may be other dress code restrictions for safety reasons depending upon position. These restrictions will be detailed during staff development.
