Three very special activities highlight each camper's stay at Camp Sweeney: The Camp Carnival, the Camp Olympics and the Awards Ceremony.
Camp Sweeney Carnival
Each session features a high spirited carnival with treats for all, including obstacle course, face painting, super slide, bungee run, zip line, dodge ball, mechanical bull riding, money machine, climbing wall and game booths, prizes and fun. At the beginning of the evening, a Carnival King and Queen are elected and crowned by campers.
Camp Sweeney Olympics
Following dinner on the second and third Sundays in the three-week sessions, campers are divided into Alpha and Beta teams for the traditional Sweeney Olympics. To spark the spirit of competition, a runner lights the Olympic Campfire amid familiar Olympic music. Then it's time for competition. Let the games begin!
Sweeney Olympic events include:
- Three-legged relays
- Sled Races
- People Pass
- All Camp Relay
The Olympic final event is the notorious Camp Sweeney Obstacle Relay. The relay involves everything from throwing water balloons at the counselors (another traditional favorite) to emptying a baby bottle of sugar-free Crystal Light and finally sliding on a slip and slide.
Awards Banquet and Dance
Campers celebrate their successes with a banquet held at the conclusion of each session to honor their accomplishments.
The awards portion is broadcast both on Camp Sweeney's KPFC and Webcast on the internet so that parents can both watch and listen in on the excitement. The first portion of the awards is the cabin pearls, which are based on the camper's cabin life and participation.
Merit awards are presented for achievements in each class. Medical education awards are presented to the campers who have the highest exam scores in each cabin. These awards are usually Video Game systems. The culmination of the awards is the Code of Living Awards ceremony. This climactic event recognizes the campers who have demonstrated the Code of Living values for that season.
Following the Awards Ceremony and the Code of Living Awards Ceremony, a dance is held to celebrate the closing of the session and the friends each camper has made. It's quite a night!
